On October 6th, 2023, the IIHMR family embarked on a journey towards understanding and addressing transgender inequalities for a more resilient future. The workshop was initiated by Dr. Nidhi Yadav, (Associate Professor, IIHMR Delhi), with unwavering guidance from the esteemed Dr. Sutapa B Neogi, (Director of IIHMR Delhi). Our students played a crucial role in actively participating and setting the stage for meaningful discussions. Following the introduction, Mr. Ujwal Maitra, Communication Strategist based in Cambodia, shared his invaluable insights on communication strategies tailored for vulnerable groups during times of crisis. The event was chaired by Dr. Nutan Prabha Jain, (Director, Center for General Studies at IIHMR University, Jaipur) in the panel discussion done with distinguished experts like Ranjita Sinha, (an advocate for transgender groups), Dr. Monica Saha, (a public health activist and influencer), and Anurag Maitreyee, (a transgender activist) who shared their experiences, highlighted the pressing problems, and provided valuable suggestions and recommendations to shed light on the inequalities faced by the transgender community. This workshop was attended by around 80 participants from more than 10 states of India. It marked a significant step towards promoting equality and resilience in the face of adversity and highlighted the significant role of youth in DRR activities. IIHMR also wants to thank student volunteers Ms. Ishani, Mr. Ritika and Ms. Sakshi for making this event a great success.
