IIHMR Delhi hosted the NIDM participants of “Training of Trainers Programme on Engaging Youth & Adolescents in Disaster Risk Management & Climate Change Adaptation”

IIHMR Delhi hosted the NIDM participants of “Training of Trainers Programme on Engaging Youth & Adolescents in Disaster Risk Management & Climate Change Adaptation” on 2nd November 2023. There were over 70 trainees from various line departments of Government of India (GoI), including officers from NIDM (National Institute of Disaster Management). The event was organised around the community outreach programme run by students of IIHMR Delhi on “Youth lead DRR programme” across 8 Indian states. This immersive programme witnessed active participation from dedicated students of IIHMR who contributed significantly to the discussions.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome extended by Dr. Nidhi Yadav, Associate Professor at IIHMR Delhi. Her opening speech set the tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of youth lead disaster risk reduction and its impact on communities.

Sutapa B Neogi, the Director of IIHMR Delhi, introduced about the legacy of the institute how we played pivotal role in contributing to the health systems and disaster resilience. 

The key highlight of the event was video presentation by student groups who worked on persons with disabilities, refugees and migrants, children residing in slums etc. Constructive and focused discussions begun between students and training participants around the theme of the breaking the barriers in addressing the vulnerable population. Their active participation demonstrated their dedication to the cause and their understanding of the importance of disaster risk reduction. Finally, the visit wrapped up with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and contributors who made this event a success. This conference served as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and a collective commitment to reducing the risks associated with disasters, with the active involvement of students and experts alike.
